In this day of AI, I felt it necessary to be explicit about my intentions. Otherwise, who knows? Perhaps this site is yet another AI-generated site just to mess with our heads.

Just kidding.

To the reader (of which I’m happy to have you), I make the following promises:

Promise 1: I will not use GenAI to draft any of my writing.

I love GenAI as a tool. In fact, the code for this blog was written entirely with Claude Code. In my day-to-day, the app I use on my phone the most is undoubtedly between ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. With my voracious curiosity, I ask it all sorts of questions on thinking mode, and learn a ton all the time. I find it a very useful research tool and will use it to do research, validate or invalidate claims, collect data, and find alternative viewpoints. In other areas of my life, its efficacy is… mixed. Sometimes good (for coding), sometimes less sound (telling me what I want to hear as opposed to what I need to hear).

However, when it comes to the writing you read, it will always be hand-written by me. I might use AI for idea generation, exploring new topics, going deeper, but never will I copy-paste from AI onto this site. I prefer to keep this as human as possible for a few reasons:

• I want my voice to be genuine. I don’t want the AI to take over my voice
• I don’t want to lose the human.
• I don’t want to become lazy.
• I don’t want to contribute to the unlimited black hole of AI slop on the internet. (which, unfortunately, is only going to get worse over time. the grave coffers will only continue to stockpile…)
• I don’t want to train GenAI on my data. (though this may be a losing battle, since we all know that volumes of copyright law were violated in the training of AI. they can’t claim that no authors/artists were harmed in the training process!)

Promise 2: I will only publish what I consider high quality.

Here’s my criteria for high quality:

• Must be authentic
• Must be practically useful
• Must teach me something I didn’t already know, or reveal a new angle to something I am already familiar with
• Motivation must be pure (shouldn’t try to sell me something)
• Must be correct
• Must show humility. An example would be to admit uncertainty whenever appropriate. Another example would be willing to course-correct if a new superior idea surfaces.

This is what I like to see from a high quality post. Now the burden is on me to provide the same.

Promise 3: I will keep the noise to a minimum.

I will strive to deliver a high signal-to-noise ratio. This means I will not write fluff. There’s already plenty of that on the internet today. No need for me to dogpile.

• No listicles because those are stupid.
• No super short reads with super obvious information that only takes a short google search or an AI query.
• No clickbait since this site is not monetized.
• No ads either because I hate those.

Just a serene peaceful corner of the internet where you can forget about all the distractions.

Promise 4: I will strive to provide a balance of being detailed vs being easy to understand.

This one is hard. Life comes with details. It’s an art to take something complex and make it simple to understand. I’m still working on this. I find analogies and visuals (like diagrams) to be a good way to learn, so whenever possible, I’ll present those.

Promise 5: I will course-correct if I deviate from these promises.

We’re all human and imperfect. If at any point you find that I have deviated from what I stated here, please let me know, and I will take in the feedback and strive to do better.
